Old Gulfgate movie theater

Anyone remember much about the old Gulfgate movie theater that had the bridge across the 6-10 freeway? I saw online that it was a General Cinema that closed in '86 but I remember it being open and going there in the early 90's. Did it get bought out after '86 or am I just confused?
