Northside Village: Safety

Hi y’all! I’ll keep this as brief as I can.

I am 24yo woman who has found a beautiful garage apartment in the Northside Village area. It is located near the coffee shop A 2nd Cup (southeast of it). I looked through the posts on this subreddit about crime/safety concerns but I thought I’d just ask directly.

As a young woman who will be living by herself, how safe is this area? Should I be concerned? When I toured the apartment, it seemed pretty quiet which I liked. But from what I’ve read, the closer to the rail/Moody Park I get, the more sketchy it is. I have also read that it is not advised to walk outside at night and that it is not the neighborhood to go on runs or walk your dog during late hours. Not a runner and don’t have pets so that’s not a serious concern for me. The apartment I am interested in also only offers driveway parking; are car break-ins common?

I fully understand that crime can happen anywhere. I have lived alone in Montrose (an area I know very well) for 3 years and luckily had no crime-related issues. I am very unfamiliar with what Northside Village is like. Any insight on the safety of the area + precautions I need to take would be greatly appreciated!
