Non-partisan discussion group for political philosophy/current events?
Hello all,
I'm curious to know if there's any interest amongst Houstonians in starting a small discussion group dedicated to political philosophy and current events. I'm a 29 year old consultant living in Houston who over the course of the past six or seven years has started to consume quite a lot more media dedicated to economics, political philosophy, and geopolitics.
Few of my friends share these interests in depth, or if they do we don't talk much of it. I'd love to find a few other people who would be willing to read the same articles or books and then compare notes, discuss adjacent writing, make recommendations, etc.
While I'm left-aligned with most of my policies (though I do not consider myself a Democrat), I would ideally want this group to be non-partisan and dedicated more to productive conversation over partisan bickering (which I have become completely exhausted with).
Some books I read recently and liked to give you an idea:
-Hate Inc. by Taibbi
-The Tyranny of Merit by Sandel
-Tailspin by Brill
-What's the Matter with Kansas? by Frank
-Sapiens by Harari
If anyone's curious, feel free to comment or DM – this group would mostly be about learning from each other and engaging with others who are politically curious.
