No kill dog shelters

I don't have a car. So, I walk everywhere. That being so, I see a LOT of homeless dogs. I don't want to call the Catcher because I don't want them in a shelter that kills. Is there any way I can help these dogs without involving kill shelters?

I rent a room so I can't take them on myself.
