NFL owners won’t allow Watson to be traded unless it is a monumental haul

Jerry Jones won’t let this happen. Steve Bisciotti won’t let this happen. Every other owner besides the ones trying to get watson (jets/49ers) won’t let this happen.

There’s a difference between player empowerment like in the NBA where star players typically only request trades towards the end of their contract or after giving their all for 6+ years or so.

What is going with the Texans is different than player empowerment, it’s player entitlement. It’s one thing to sit out on a franchise tag, but a whole other ball game when you sign a deal and then immediately request a trade despite signing the deal knowing where the organization is in terms of competency.

If Watson did actually request a trade, then it’s pretty clear he just signed his bag to secure his future and had no intent of staying with the team.

Being miffed about Caserio being hired without his input isn’t really a good reason to request a trade when you look at Green Bay and how they treated Aaron Rodgers with the coaching hire and drafting his replacement like they did with Farve. Dak Prescott has a much bigger reason to be angry at the Cowboys and he’s not being immature either.

I truly believe the owners have communicated to Cal that if he lets this trade happen without getting 5 firsts or something huge in return, owners will make him pay one way or another. The owners want to make sure whatever outcome happens is a message to players that they won’t tolerate this.

Make no mistake, the owners are not going to let players start doing this. They don’t want what Watson is doing to start anytime soon and become a trend. Only about 15 franchises are typically competitive in a consistent manner, so the rest of the owners do not want this happening on a consistent basis.

This Watson situation is bigger than the Texans.
