New luxury residential developments here, there, everywhere!!

TLDR: (in seinfield’s voice) WHAT IS UP WITH THESE APT DEVELOPMENTS EVERYWHERE?!?

There seems to be endless constructing of high-end apts and 3-story homes in Houston’s inner loop, pandemic not withstanding. I blink and another apt complex goes up; I blink, a mom-and-pop replaced by a chain something; I blink again and an entire neighborhood of working class folks are pushed out of their homes/land. Where do they go to live? I may be biased bc I’m a “creative” type, but it seems like the uniqueness of different locations are being rubbed out so quickly. I’ve only lived here 20 years and yet it’s been obvious how things have changed so quickly. Change and evolution is somewhat expected but I had imagined natural change would mean it would change at rates much slower than this. Btw, I’m no expert, but shouldn’t we have less concrete-pouring due to the whole flooding thing? I get wanting to “revitalize” places, but who is the “revitalizing” really for? It’s so confusing!

What is the occupancy rates of these apts anyway, and do we really have that high of a demand for them? If so, that would mean even more traffic congestions. “Traffic hour” already takes up like half the day on a normal day.The thought of traffic keeps me from going anywhere. Ugh aarrrhhh puhhh…. End rant.
