New driver, heading from galveston to dallas tonight (5hr), many questions for Houston driving

It's always 60 on that road! Why does everyone go 15 over? should I be going 15 over as well?

Are the left side exit lanes still a place for fast moving traffic?

I've yet to drive over 3 hours in length on my own, and honestly I'm quite nervous. Any overall tips for road trips?
