New Build next door is asking for a permanent easement on my property for construction and maintenance.

I'm not a fan of them asking for rights to access the easement as long as the new house is there.. so basically in perpetuity. Is this common? I live in the heights area so all the new builds are the multi story townhomes that take up the entire lot. I have a bungalow. I would be okay granting the access until construction is complete but the builder is saying the city is requiring it to be forever.

Has anyone else had a situation similar to this? Any advice would be appreciated.
