Need Tow Truck To Retrieve From Shady Mechanic

Made a post in another subreddit. Basically I came to the decision that I plan on having someone recover my vehicle from this mechanic.

He has stopped communicating with me after I asked for receipts on the AC work that he did.

He rebuilt a transmission without my authorization to do so. Supposedly it wouldn’t shift out of 2nd gear.

From what I understand, the police will not intervene because it’s a “civil” issue.

If he is holding my vehicle ransom due to me not wanting to pay for a transmission that I didn’t ask him to rebuild… then how can this not be a criminal issue?

I understand that it’s on his property but the vehicle belongs to me.

I live in Montgomery County, but I’m not sure whether his address is within the city limits of Conroe or not.

Can someone help me with this?
