Need help on school selection

So my brother is applying for schools this year, and it seems like Heights is already full. He's supposed to be zoned by Booker T Washington High School but he has been going to an out of district highschool this past semester. A highschool that is available at the moment for him to go to that I'm also interested in is Lamar because of it being at a good part of the city but I am not sure about it considering how far it is. I don't know about the quality of nearby highschools like Waltrip or Scarborough from where we live either. Do any parents or siblings who have had their kids go to HISD highschools have any recommendations?
