My theory on Josh McCown

It wasn’t a head coaching interview. But… if you believe in the guy and want him to grow. Giving him interviews so that he can dip his feet in the water isn’t terrible. I’d almost say it’s a mock interview but I feel that would be insulting.

I’d put money on him being a position coach.

People have been bringing him in for backup QB for easily the past 5-7 years because he can pick up the basic understanding of the system pretty quickly enough to be helpful to the team in a pinch.

To me that shows that he has the mind of a football coach in the making not to mention an obvious love of the game. If you can nurture that he will be a solid coach one day.

Even Philadelphia considered it. source

The line to pay attention to is.

Philadelphia, where McCown wowed the staff and front office with his leadership, football acumen and people skills during his stint there as a quarterback, also gave very serious consideration to speaking to him as well. They view McCown as a future NFL head coach — sooner rather than later — and concocted a creative way to keep him on their practice squad to start 2020, despite him living in Texas and coaching high school football there, because he was such a valuable resource to the coaches and the quarterback room.

He will be a head coach one day. And it isn’t a terrible idea to interview him to gauge exactly how close he is to being an OC or head coach. Because Tim Kelly is probably going to start getting interviews soonish in the next year or two.

We are almost certainly going to hire EB. But literally what is the harm in interviewing other people for this?

Plus… I know we have some SHSU people in here.
