My neighbors dog attacked me this morning (Advice).
I like dogs. I grew up with them and also watch dog related YouTube videos regularly so I’m not a dog hater or paranoid about them.
When I first encountered my neighbor and her dog, I was very concerned for my safety because it kept growling, barking and trying to lunge at me aggressively.
Every time I would pass her this would be the case. This dog is also quite massive and they put a muzzle on him to protect people from getting bitten.
Today as I passed them on a narrow path to get to my car, the dog barked and lunged at my direction several times, then broke away from its leash and charged at me.
At this point I had passed them by two or three feet but I was also watching my back so I ran as soon as I realized.
It jumped on me and its weight and force caused me to lose balance and fall but I was still able to push its face away while on the ground.
The owner regained control of the leash and rushed the dog back inside her apartment.
It happened so fast I could not recollect how I even lost one of my shoes. She comes back and apologizes but I’m so pissed that she didn’t even try to move her dog away from me as I was approaching knowing very well her dog is extremely aggressive.
I have some very minor injuries which I do not think are worth hassling her but her negligence is unacceptable.
There are kids who live in the complex as well and this is now a serious safety issue.
As someone who’s had dogs I know that she is terrible with her dog because she hasn’t corrected the bad behavior, she doesn’t care to create space to avoid any close encounters and she can’t even control the dog’s strength.
She is a woman who’s probably around 50 years old. I don’t want to involve cops or anything like that but I want to make sure that she never walks around with that dog in our neighborhood ever again.
What is a reasonable way of handling this? I plan on making a formal complaint to the leasing office and demand action taken against her.
