My cousin Alexis Jovany Cardenas died in Harris County Jail.

I’m reaching out on behalf of my family. My cousin, Alexis Jovany Cardenas, died while in custody at the Harris County Jail on July 8, 2025, He leaves behind 4 children.

We just learned that the footage was released after the sheriff’s press conference. Not allowing for the media and public to ask questions about what was shown. What’s worse, unless you go looking for the footage, you won’t even know it exists. There’s been no public sharing of the full video or real acknowledgment of what happened. Just biased opinions from the sheriff.

We’re heartbroken and angry, and we’re asking the Houston community to help us raise awareness. Alexis was not a danger to others—he was in need of help. We believe his death could have been prevented, and we want transparency, accountability, and justice.
