My cat is missing and there was a deceased cat like mine on the street but now it’s gone. Who should I contact to figure out if that cat is mine?

My cat has gone missing and I live in fort bend county. I heard there was a deceased cat on the curbside that look liked mine a mile away but when I went to the location it was gone. I asked people nearby and they said they saw the cat but don’t know where it went. I was wondering if animal control picked it up and scanned the microchip. I tried contacting fort bend animal services and bridge and road but got no information. I am worried if it’s my cat. Please help.
