Move to Houston

Hi everyone!

There's a (strong) potential that my husband and I may be moving to Houston from Baltimore, MD. We are used to city living so living in a lively area is important to us. Plus, we would like to be as close to downtown due to office location.

We are early 30-somethings and aren't necessarily looking to party all the time but we do like being close to good restaurants and a chill bar. Primarily we are looking for convenience to downtown for work, dog parks for our dogs, and to grocery stores/shopping.

Ideally we were hoping to find a house/townhouse to rent but we feel safer finding a nice and affordable apartment (2 bedrooms or so, ~$2,300/mo) while we look for something that is more suitable. Does anyone have any recommendations on locations to live, apartment buildings they recommend (or should avoid) or any upscale townhouse complexes to check out?

And would totally appreciate any other general recommendations on where to take our dogs, good golf courses, what's the nightlife like, etc?
