Mike Miles, appointed HISD Supperedentiant is corrupt, I work under his charter school company 3rd Future Schools and will be leaving soon because of his system. Here’s a list of things that aren’t working, (also Ask me Anything)

Biggest issues are.. 1. No consequences, I've been threatened with violence, kids have made death threats to classmates and teachers, nothing is done.

  1. Open door policy, kids walk out of the class all the time. When I report to admin there are no consequences. His reasoning for Open Door is that you can't trust teachers with what they will say and do to kids but the issue is the elective class I teach requires the kids to make noise and talk a lot, so do the classes across the hall.

  2. Him being the Superintendent and CEO of the Charter company is conflict of interest. Also he is turning public schools into the charter style.

  3. Libraries are no longer, it is now called the 'Team Center's where kids that misbehave go. But guess what? I have a class with 5 kids with severe special needs and when they have a meltdown I call Admin to take them there, they won't. When it comes to other kids with behavior issues I. Expected to do an incident report every time I want a kid to leave my room. I have to do it immediately while the 24 other kids wait for me to finish filling it out.

  4. Lack of training, I have never taught in my life and am grateful they've given me the opportunity but the Company he owns apparently is not allowed to give me feedback and tips on my performance. They just say "you are doing good for a first year teacher."

  5. His elective programs have no subs. When I am not there the kids get to play in the gym. Admin is supposed to cover my class but it is impossible for them to do so what with all the other responsibilities they have. Also what if two out of the 8 elective teachers miss? They've also had mandatory work days right before holidays, which I think is ridiculous but understand everyone may not feel that way.

  6. He's a cult like figure, he made a play that kids were tricked into performing about him saving the district. See https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/education-news/hisd/2023/08/17/459821/a-fever-dream-mike-miles-stars-in-musical-about-himself-as-disorganization-plagues-houston-isd-teacher-training/

  7. The TEA takeover of HISD, not a fan of it to say the least.

  8. His new system is like a Donald Trump "you're fired" approach. My school hasn't had a principal for 2.5 months. The following quote is from an article with the link at the end. Sorry this is a long post.

"includes a "target distribution" that calls for one out of every three principals to be rated as less than proficient, and it limits the number of campuses where administrators can receive the highest rating. All Houston ISD educator salaries will eventually be tied to performance ratings."

  1. His vision is to prepare kids for a world where AI has taken over by 2030. (See Third Future Vision and more of what he has said.) Also Mike Miles is not focused on kids being able to read and write

  2. He was with Mike Morath, the man that appointed him to HISD since there days in Dallas ISD board.
