midtown? downtown? somewhere else?

My partner and I are traveling this week to Houston. He covers the 49ers as press so he will be attending the game but we want to enjoy our friday and saturday in Houston. Was googling since the city is so big and we are trying to find the best are to stay. Any recommendations for neighborhoods? We appreciate great food, anticipate being active if and walking would be open to museums. Want to feel at least semi safe walking from dinner to the hotel so preferably a lively area parhaps? I see that there are hotels very close to the stadium but we’d like to stay somewhere nice and don’t mind having to take a short uber to the game if that’s not the best area. I don’t use reddit much so hopefully this is an okay place and question to ask!
