Midtown Apartment Recommendations

I move to Houston in a month, and I'm pretty set on Midtown.. I've come across Calais Midtown and Camden City Centre. Both fall within my budget, but they have mixed reviews. Does anyone have any personal experiences living there? I don't need the nicest apartment, but I just wanna make sure I'm not moving into an absolute dump that I'll regret soon after I sign. I don't want to spend over $1500 on rent for a 1BR 1BA if possible, but I'm willing to spend a bit more if the place is really that much better than the ones I'm looking at.
