Meeting Gregg Optekamp
While on a walk through the Galveston Strand this past weekend, we met Gregg Optekamp. Our first impression of Gregg was that he was a really friendly person which nowadays is sometimes a rare occurrence to come across. Gregg offered to take a picture of us as we walked past him and we both thought – wow, what a nice guy! Fast forward 5 minutes later, we run into Gregg again but this time he was standing in front of an Art Gallery…So naturally, we started asking him questions about the gallery and found out he was acting as host for the day. It just so happens that Houston City Beat has an artist section and we are looking for people to interview. Gregg was excited to be interviewed and it just flowed from there. There is zero editing on this video, so what you see is the raw footage of an impromptu interview that captures the journey of an artist and the mediums he uses to convey his innermost expressions. Gregg came from the corporate world and one day decided to make the big leap into what fills his heart with joy – his artwork. We loved his moving art called Golden Tree's and both of his glass pieces are simply incredible. What I loved about the two glass art pieces he had on display was the richness in colors that combine to tell its own story. One of the pieces Gregg has on display at this particular gallery is of a tree that was created out of moveable gold. It's a great conversation piece for your art collection or as a stand-alone statement in your home. Gregg is a very talented artist and we look forward to following him throughout his journey. We hope you love the video as much as we loved interviewing and filming it!You can find Gregg on Instagram – OptEmized_Greggariousart and on the web at www.greggariousart.comHis art is displayed at Meek Gallery 1903 Spring St Houston, Texas, and From the HeART Gallery at 2111 Post Office Street, Galveston, Texas. With Love,Lisbet NewtonA Word about Houston City BeatHCB is a local directory with a focus on providing the maximum exposure to small businesses in the Greater Houston Area.
