Meet Valencia Brown | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Valencia Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valencia, why did you pursue a creative career?
One of the reasons I pursued a artistic career because my mother and I went on a mini road trip so she could get her military id card. As we approached this bridge I just snapped a picture of and put a filter over it and posted it on Facebook. The feedback that I got back from that image was so amazing but I didn’t pay that much attention to it then. What really made me pay attention was when I went to my hometown and I saw this little pond. I took a picture of it and did my edit once I printed it out and put it on my wall every time someone visited me they would always ask where did I get the picture from. I would say I did that and they said oh you have a good eye so that is what really made me get invested in it. I started to look at things differently and when people would stand in certain lighting I would try to pose them in my mind. So it was like my creative process was starting to be more open. Once I started a job dealing with photographers and having to edit the images from them and having conversations about photography equipment and getting my first camera starting to learn about photography as a whole made me fall in love with it.Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I’m most proud of is that my brand is still growing and I learn more and more every day. The thing that sets me apart from other photographers is because I want my clients to love the pictures I take and we create momentos from the images that we take. I got where I am today by never giving up even when things get tough especially with the pandemic we have going on currently. One of the major things I have learned is to stay motivated and never give up no matter what. What I want other people to know about my brand is that we provide reasonable rates for our images and momentos for our clients.Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to almost every photography spot I know that is started with the woodlands waterway area and we would have lunch at Landry’s seafood and dinner at the cheese cake factory. I would want to tell them to stay at the Marriott marquis downtown because of the lazy river that is in it. We would either go to this is it or esters because I love the soul food places. We would probably spent the day walking around McGovern Centennial Gardens just talking about life or whatever probably get a paddle boat around that area. The next day we would go to Hermann park and eat at papas seafood or BBQ and hang out if we could see a baseball game in person go to stadium and find a bar or something around there to chill and hang out. I would love to go on a nature walk at the botanical gardens and see the tunnels in Houston because I have never been. I would like to go see some kind of play and go to the house of blues bar area and chill out there.Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people that I want to send a special shout out to is Adrianna, Mary, and Brandon. These people always show me amazing support and if I show up to sessions and I need extra advice on what I am trying to capture Adrianna is the one that is basically my mind reader. She is my amazing make up artist/ co creative director and when we are in a room together its like magic just happens. Mary is my best friend/ assistant because she calls the venues and always has great ideas, helps takes pictures at the sessions. Mary is basically my life saver when it comes to making things happen. The next person that deserves credit is Brandon because he does all the shirts that I need for the business or the sessions that I do with the quick turn around process that he has. He always helps with editing and feed back to help with my brand.
