Meet Danna Tartaglia | Owner, Tartaglia Fine Art gallery
We had the good fortune of connecting with Danna Tartaglia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve had art galleries on the west coast, representing top notch local and national artists. When I decided to retire and move back to my roots and family in Texas I was surprised at the lack of traditional fine art galleries in The Woodlands-Magnolia-Conroe area. So many art enthusiasts and collectors here but the talented professional artists in this area did not have a place to show off their work. Serendipity plays a part in my artistic life and a great spot opened up at the Bella Bottega artist studios in Magnolia giving me the nudge I needed to get going on this vision. Suzie Baker, of Shenandoah TX, was popular in my Ojai California gallery. So fun to be working together again.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
‘I came into the world with a crayon in hand’. Being creative is my default mode, always making something. Painting with oils began in high school with a favorite art teacher and has been a strong thread woven through other artsy makings. Being an artist, a painter myself, makes this gallery business a slam-dunk. It falls right into my natural inclinations, working with artists and fashioning a welcoming space where visitors can take their time to enjoy the gallery of art. When I’m painting and my artist voice is in full volume the paintings tend to be emotional. Motion and Emotion are the key words that are expressed back to me. The natural world is my inspiration. Having my own galleries helped to get attention for my own artworks and I’ve always enjoyed painting as I chat with customers, and seems to be when I produce my best works! Could it be that I’m not so focused on the painting and allowing the Muse to take over? That’s always the trick, getting out of my own way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a newbie here, only a couple of years since I moved to The Woodlands with many places still on my to-do list. For a start, we would take a stroll through shops at Market Street, stopping for a lingering wine lunch at Cru. I love a walk along the Waterway, with the artistic benches to sit and watch the swan paddle boats. An evening of music at the Pavilion or free local musicians at Waterway Square, Market Street or Northshore Park. A visit to the Woodlands Mall to see the Carousel and another shopping wander through the shops.
