Medicare pending approval help please

Hi my father is in his early 70s with an inguinal hernia which he needs outpatient surgery to fix. The problem is he has been enrolled in Medicare Part A (hospital) but his surgery requires Part B (outpatient). He enrolled on February 14, 2025 at the social security office in person and is STILL pending approval.

He has called multiple times to no avail and I even had to reach out to my local congressman last week to help and that hasn’t seemed to expedite the process either. On top of that, his pain was worsening and he was prescribed pain medication except the dr didn’t inform him the prescription is only valid for 10 days and he can’t prescribe him anymore.

Not really sure what else to do because the surgeon said they can’t perform the surgery without approval of Medicare Part B, but that may be specific to that office only. I’ve looked up financial assistance programs but it seems that he makes too much to qualify for that assistance. If anyone knows of any hospitals in Houston that may be able to provide a payment plan for him that would be helpful, but again, he may not be qualified.

If anyone has any tips please let me know I feel awful bc it’s been nearly three months- he isn’t doing well and has lost about 15 lbs over this whole mess. Thank you 🙁
