Medical malpractice advice

Has anyone suffered from medical malpractice and has any advice on how to navigate this? I'm seeing that there's a pretty low cap for Texas payouts and I'm wondering if it's even worth pursuing my case even though someone almost died and is now permanently disfigured. I can't seem to find any great malpractice lawyers here. Do people just suffer through bad medical care here?
