Mechanic uptown area

I've got a some deep engine work that needs done on my GMC Yukon (failed lifter). I got it diagnosed at Adams automotive but they want over $9k. Richmond auto was at $3500 and this place called advantek said $1500. Adams is definitely overpriced but I also don't want to do something super cheap and risk a dodgy engine repair. I haven't been in Houston long so I don't know what shops have a good reputation with their work.
