McCormick Vs Bellinger
If there is any nugget of truth to the Astros' interest in Bellinger, I want show why that's a pointless trade, assuming Chas is the one traded.
| Chas McCormick | Cody Bellinger | |
|---|---|---|
| G | 54 | 61 |
| AVG | .280 | .301 |
| OBP | .365 | .358 |
| SLG | .522 | .524 |
| OPS | .886 | .882 |
| OPS+ | 144 | 137 |
| WRC+ | 146 | 135 |
| WPA+ | 2.6 | 0.5 |
| bWAR | 2.4 | 2.4 |
| fWAR | 2.1 | 2.4 |
| Runs Prevented | 2 | 3 |
| OAA | 2 | 4 |
| Salary | $752,500 | $12,500,000 |
And might I add, with those defensive numbers, a good chunk of those are coming from Chas in LF; most definitely would be higher if he played CF daily. And even if you have no idea what half of those stats mean, you can notice they're roughly even for the most part but with 2 major caveats:
- Chas is making way less money and has more years of control left before FA.
- No one has ever said anything bad about Chas as a teammate. He looks like he's always having the time of his life. You really want to replace that with Cody "Altuve stole the 2017 MVP from Judge" Bellinger?
If you got both Stroman and Bellinger for just Chas, maybe that's better? But still, you risk tearing apart that clubhouse dynamic.
