Man with long black hair wants to dye it – looking for recommendations

Serious question inspired by the haircut question – I’ve searched this forum and all of them are 5 years ago and may not be appropriate anymore.

And I have no clue what to search for or whom to ask.. (people of all genders are welcome to share their recommendations)

Anyhoo, I’m near Katy and I can drive wherever. Please recommend a good place for me to go to and what to expect when I want my black hair to be dyed purple (highlights mostly).
