Maldonado v Yainer Diaz Thoughts

I won't pretend to be an expert but am trying to make sense of our bad start.
So Maldy's has been a Chi Sox starter this season. He's hitting historically bad, sub .100 average. (Their team ERA is on par with ours)

Overall, our pitchers (Relief and Starters) have struggled (+ Add in Injuries too) with getting hit. Especially the younger guys Brown and Arrighetti (Who may just not have been ready.)

Is there any way to know whether some of the struggles our pitchers have run into has been based on missing Maldy's pitch calling? Framber had that blowup inning in his last outing that he chalked up to going away from the game plan. Maybe that's just what you say to save face.

I'm glad we're into the Diaz era (best batting average in MLB!), but curious if Maldy's impact on pitchers' success would outweigh his dead bat for us. I'm pretty sure it's not something that can be measured but thought it would be interesting to compare Yanier and Maldy. I don't think Defensive WAR has anything around pitch calling, etc. Just an idea.

Diaz should improve if this is the case. Seems like it's easier to improve in pitch calling than in hitting?
