Low maintenance landscaping that will still allow for proper drainage?

Hello! I am moving into a new house. It has a tiny backyard that I’d like turfed so I don’t have to mow. It also has a small sliver of yard on one side of the house. I am thinking some sort of gravel there. I want to make sure what I am choosing will allow water to drain properly into the soil, etc. Any suggestions or tips? Also, if you have any landscaping company recs (east side of Houston), I’d appreciate them! Thank you!
