Looking to adopt a puppy in Houston area

My girlfriend just moved with me and we are looking to adopt a puppy. We want preferably a small one. We been looking on Craigslist and every ad seems like scams. Maybe if you know somebody that has puppy's we can pay a rehoming fee for something reasonably.
