Looking for entertainment recommendations near Bayou Music Center

I will be in Houston soon for a concert soon that takes place there and I was hoping to just stay close by that area the whole day. But I know nothing of the area. Is it a safe spot I can walk around all day or is it the kind of place you uber to right before the show so you don't get robbed?

In any case, I could use some restaurant/bar recommendations nearby as well.
