Looking for a small film crew to film and edit a mini-documentary

Hey everyone, so I work for a national music company that matches up music students with professional instructors near them for private lessons. My job is to coordinate the lessons for new students and help them get set up for their first lesson.

Last week I had met a student named Donna who’s story absolutely touched me to the core. She is an Army vet for the 82nd Airborne. She suffered a traumatic brain injury which got her honorably discharged.

After a lot of treatment she ended up developing a brain tumor which caused her to have seizures which led to three near fatal car accidents and her losing her license.

She was telling me about how passionate she is about singing and how all of her friends tell her she sounds like Whitney Houston but she has no stage confidence and wants to get professional lessons with us.

I found her the PERFECT instructor. Literally a match made in heaven. To the point where her instructor’s day job is a mental health therapist who specializes in brain injuries. Like, I got goosebumps trying to network the two of them.

We want to let our student share her story about her time in the Army and all the hardships, document a few sessions with our coach, and also get a couple interviews with the coach as well, followed by a finale at a live venue where our student would perform for her first time with one last interview there after.

I’m thinking we shoot the first session which is typically an hour long lesson but we’d like to spend a half hour before and after just to get some interview time in so 2 hours filming.

filming two possibly three more sessions after that similarly

and finally film the live set and the pre-post interview at the venue.

I’m thinking all in all about a 10-15 minute edit.

Wanted to hire some film students or something to keep the budget as reasonable as possible because it’s not my money it’s money coming out of my boss’ start up. Just wanted a ball park of what a project like that would run.

I’m thinking no more than 8 hours on set total and whatever post-production would cost to cut it down to a cool promotional mini-documentary.

The company I work for is based out of Dallas and I personally live in Philadelphia but all of this would be filmed on location in Houston.

I’ll be meeting with my boss about this idea on Thursday so he wants me to have some kind of numbers for him by then.

The project will span between 3-6 months so there’s a lot of free time in between, we could maybe discuss some short 1 minute trailers in the middle for our social media.

Let me know if you or anyone you know would be interested in taking something like this on. I was a film student myself but that was over a decade ago plus flying to Houston and staying there for the whole project isn’t really feasible or cost effective for the company.

Demos appreciated. Thanks!
