Looking at the Texans Depth Chart
| |
As of now, this is where our team is at. (I'll delete this if we get another acquisition tonight.) These are our big needs, looking a little better than it did yesterday:
In the 2022 NFL Draft, Nick Caserio acquired 5 starters (Sting, Green, Pitre, Harris, Pierce, Quitoriano), 2 depth players, and 1 cancer patient (Get well soon, Metchie). We have 10 picks in the upcoming draft. Maybe more if we move Cooks. My initial feelings about today's free agency were pretty salty. I blasted my friend about it and he reminded me that great teams are built in the draft. This thought has been echoed by some of y'all on the subreddit. Maybe I'm being redundant, but when you look at our depth chart against our picks, it reveals that draft-oriented strategy in real-time. Of the 7 open starter positions, we know quarterback will be our first pick in the draft. There simply isn't a later talent that Caserio would bet his career on. He won't get cute and he'll simply take whoever is left of Young and Stroud. Even if you assume that all the 6th round picks will be depth players, we're left with 5 picks from rounds 1 thru 4, excluding the QB pick. Again, I love and believe in our last draft class. 5 starters! Once Nick does it again and finds those 5 new starters + the franchise QB, our team is pretty much complete. It'll be a young squad, growing together, under the leadership of Demeco Ryans. This is the vision. We're being quiet in free agency because we want to be. Some of the irritation today comes from this idea that every other team is outplaying us by signing all these guys. It's making me fucking jealous. But the fact is: we do not want those guys. Our team, our depth chart, is being reserved for the next class. There simply isn't a lot of space for free agents and it's intentional. We can use two more free agents at most, but after that space has to be reserved for the rookies. (Hopefully it's Jake Brendel & Azeez) Hold till April comrades. P.S. I want your 4 round mock drafts submitted by /u/Shenji458 |
