Long-term cat boarding

Hi y'all, I'm going to study abroad for a year(ish), and I'd love your advice on my cat's housing options. Initially, my family was going to take care of her. But as Life would have it, they can no longer keep her. I really don't want to surrender my pet to an animal shelter. What are my best options? Do foster homes accept long-term stays?
