Living in the Third Ward, yay or nay?

Hi! This Fall, I'm going to be attending UHCO. Been looking online at apartments/townhomes in the area and don't really know which neighborhoods are safe.

Found several places in the third ward, and I've heard mixed responses on the area. Planning to have two other female roommates, and our top contender for a townhome is right next to the UH baseball field, but it is not gated and only has a driveway for us to park our cars.

Some other places we're looking at are near Emancipation Park, but they are $300+ for rent. Wondering if it's worth the cheaper price or if should we find a safer area.

Hoping to get advice from real people who had lived there.
