Living in houston

Im a student from the netherlands going for my masters in biotech at UHCL coming spring. I was wondering are there any tips for living there as a european. budgetwise, culturally, anything really.

like should i get a costco subscription or get a LTC or watch out for certain things, notable activities etc.
