License renewal

I went today to the DPS mega center in Spring with my unexpired DL and my SS card. The lady told me that wasn’t good enough and that I needed my birth certificate or passport. I thought that if I had a gold star on my license and that it wasn’t expired that was good enough. So I found my certificate of vital records that says certification of birth on it with my name, DOB, and POB. Is that good enough or should I try to get my actual birth certificate from my moms? I was born in Illinois btw

EDIT: I been here since 1986. I’ve only had a Texas DL
