Latest Gulf of Mexico oil and gas lease sale brings in record bids
After months of uncertainty and delays, the latest Gulf of Mexico oil and gas lease sale brought in nearly over $382 million in successful bids. Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Lease Sale 261 was held on Dec. 20, auctioning off about 73 million acres offshore for oil and gas drilling. The lease sale has been delayed by lawsuits after the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management attempted to reduce the available acreage to around 67 million acres.
