Late car registration renewal

Need some advice on next seps to take in order to get my car registration renewed:

• My tags expired 12/2023
• I (stupidly) didn’t prioritize renewing it for 2024 (so by EOM it will be 1 year late)
• I haven’t received any tickets for it (clean driving record)
• I am able to schedule & pass a vehicle inspection at a local auto shop
• I’m able to complete any/all renewal steps in-person or online (if a choice is still allowed)
• I have active full coverage car insurance

Wondering if it’s better for me to get it renewed asap this year so it isn’t over 1 year late or if I should wait until 2025 to do so – that way I only pay for the inspection + renewal fee one time & my tags will then be valid for the entirety of 2025, more specifically thru 12/2025 (assuming my registration renewal date doesn’t change MM/YYYY)???

Not familiar with this process & reading the Tx DPS site for info isn’t very clear/helpful. Would love to avoid any late fees/penalties/unnecessary back charges IF possible, but also understand that it’s ultimately my fault for not renewing on-time so will suck it up & pay the state if no work-arounds exist lol.
