Lao’d District – Restaurant Review

Lao’d District - Restaurant Review

Hey Guys,

Had the opportunity to check this place out on Bellaire Food Street and was pleasantly surprised. Place is still in soft opening phase and the food and service were on point. The vibe is geared toward the younger crowd and there’s a back drop mural that’s a great shoutout to Houston.

Ordered their,

Crack Belly – this was straight crack, it’s a skinless pork belly that’s slightly fried and then cooked in their Thai chili sauce. It’s slightly crunchy and juicy and is one of their top sellers apparently.

Pad Thai – also on point! Super flavorful and similar to street to kitchens but cheaper and bigger portioned

Papaya Salad – There’s only a Thai style as of now, so it’s more of a sweeter profile. It was delicious, refreshing and portioned large. Wish their was a Laos style but the owner said it might be coming down the road.

Lao’d Sausage – these were definitely house-made and more of a sweet/savory than some of the other sour traditional ones. They used a 60/40 meat/fat ratio so the sausages are extremely juicy. (Might be a turn off if you don’t enjoy small pieces of fat) Sausage was 10/10 but the real show goes to their jeow bong tamarind sauce that came with it. It’s seriously addictive and could straight up be eaten with just the sticky rice.

Overall great experience, I use to go to Sao Lao and Banh Somtum but this place will probably be my go to moving forward due to location/prices/and more creative flavorful dishes. The owner said more items will be coming for their grand opening but didn’t say what exactly what/when. Check ‘em out before it gets too hyped!
