Landlord told me if I want my AC fixed I should find a new place to live.

Long story short, my apartment is in a house built in the 1930s or 40s. I live in an upstairs unit with central air. My apartment is currently reading at 85 degrees at 8:30 pm and reached 87 around 5 or 6. It's been unbearable. Landlord insisted it's my air filter but the filter is fine. Then they insisted it's because my little entryway shoe rack is in front of the air vent, not covering it at all. Whatever, I moved it. AC is still an issue. I asked if a window unit could be installed and she told me she'd be happy to let me break my lease if I was so unhappy. Those were her words. Next, she said there's not enough amperage to add a window unit. Not sure if this is true.

I'm at a loss. I'm this close to going to the news about it. In the mean time, what is my legal recourse?

Edit to add I've been putting in work orders for months about the AC. First thing they did was change the air filter and that was it. Second time, they replaced the insulation and that also did nothing to help. They haven't replaced any AC units of mine.
