Landlord and owner giving runaround on security deposit

It’s been 30+ days since we moved out. Landlord said they handed over the security deposit to the owner and said we need to discuss with her to get the deposit back. The owner won’t respond to us anymore. My understanding was the landlord was to handle the deposit, not the owner.

We don’t want to take them to court because we don’t have much time or money to spend on it. Any advice on how to get our money back?
