Kelsey Seybold Clinic

Hello.

Has anyone in the Houston area had any experiences with KSC? Any locations, I’d love some feedback on. My primary is out of KSC Kingwood location, and I’m NOT impressed.

A little backstory, I’ve lost 20 lbs in 2 months – I was 105 in mid Feb and currently sit at 83 lbs (BMI is 16.8, I’m just under 5 ft tall). No dietary changes, but I have experienced extreme fatigue, nausea, bowel changes, shortness of breath, chest tightness, etc. I was actually recently hospitalized last weekend for severe hypokalemia (low potassium, 2.5).

I saw my primary about these issues in mid March. He ran CBC, CMP, urine and stool testing, etc. The first issue I ran into was that 3 weeks later, he never got back to me about what any of my results mean. I had to nag his nurses, call multiple times, and send multiple messages on mychart to get his attention. The nurses would always give me the runaround and tell me that he was busy with seeing patients in the clinic. As a result of the testing being a month old, he re-ran a lot of my testing. He did eventually refer me to a GI specialist, which I saw the other day – he ordered a CT, colonoscopy, and endoscopy.

Continuing with the theme of lack of communication, he gave me hell about filling out FMLA paperwork – he suggested intermittent leave as well as light duty. I gave the office the papers on a Wednesday. By Monday, he finally completed the paperwork – but he completely botched it so my FMLA was denied, which put my job at risk. He claimed to “not have information” about my hospital stay, despite the fact that he was the one who advised me to go to the ER for my low potassium – he wrote that I was never admitted to the hospital. He also wanted me to keep him updated through mychart over the weekend. I sent him the discharge papers as well as transfer of care papers on Sunday. He claims I didn’t send them in until Monday AFTER he filled out the paperwork, which is either a complete lie or he was “so busy” that he never checked my messages. Either way, I still strongly believe he should’ve taken the time to ensure the papers were filled out correctly and completely – as expected by any doctor.

As far as my light duty accommodation paperwork, I had to take 4 days of PTO needlessly due to the fact that he wrote the wrong date on my return slip – when I asked why I wasn’t cleared to return to work, he did not answer. He also refused to fix the paperwork that he screwed up until I saw my GI doctor. He only finally offered to fix the paperwork after I filed a complaint with KSC. He set up a virtual appt to ensure we could go over the papers together – however, he gave me a ton of attitude when I first joined the call, and only settled the attitude down when my anxiety got the better of me and I nearly broke down bc he made me feel as if I was being a problem.

The GI doctor I saw was nice..but I also got a call from his nurse about my CT scan results and she claimed to have thought that the doctor had already spoken to me about the results. So it seems as if lack of communication is the norm for KSC.

Am I the only one whose had this kind of experience with KSC? Should I get a second opinion, and find a new primary? I love my primary..he was so caring during my actual appt but has just about disappeared and is impossible to get ahold of since then. I have also had a ton of issues with the lab not giving me proper instructions – I will bring a specimen in as I was told to just to be told I did it wrong. And this has happened multiple times. It just seems like they jam the doctors schedule so full that they can’t provide proper continuity of care for existing patients. And communication is severely lacking.
