Julep wins James Beard award for Outstanding Bar Program

They won the award on Monday night, were closed on Tuesday for a private event, and today (Wednesday) I visited for happy hour. They were pretty slammed and there was a camera crew filming a segment.

It was my first visit and I came up from the suburbs feeling like it will only get more difficult to get in as time goes on (posts like this don’t help).

It’s good s**t. Drinks are $12-$14 but several are HALF off during happy hour. I’ve been to most of Bobby Heugel’s spots (Anvil, TCS, etc.) and this is right up there with those. Come to think of it, that dude must be pretty pissed it’s not him with the JB award.

Anyway, if you’re into craft cocktails, you’re not gonna find a better cocktail for $7 in Houston or perhaps any other major metro.

Parking sucks BTW.
