Joining Houston PD

If there is anyone with family or friends In the HPD or nearby police departments I'd love to hear your thoughts. I (23M) graduated from Texss A&M last year and having been working in the Maritme field since then (Salary $113,000) but being away from home for 6-7 months of the year is just killing me, not feeling worth the money. I've become interested in joining a police department and have done a lot of research but I have no one close to me who has ever worked in that industry so would like to hear some opinions.

In about 5 years I should be making about $150,000-$180,000 where my profession kinda caps at and I know that's good but over the next 30 years spending 15ish of those years at sea away from anyone I care about is just a lot…. Any advice is appreciated
