Job searching In Houston
Hello all. I am seeking some advice help in my search for new employment.
I currently work for the postal service in the galveston county area. Job isn’t bad but I want to do something different. I am working on a degree in computer science, and I am hoping that in the next four to five years I can find employment pertaining to said degree. In the meantime, I am searching for a simple job that meets the following criteria:
1) office job (I feel an office environment will help me with my search for a computer science position, hopefully with the company that hires me) 2) full-time 3) has to pay at least 16 an hour, which sounds like a lot for an entry level position but it’s the minimum amount I can make and still pay bills 4) I want to work with a company with whom I can grow, and utilize my degree, even if I have to start at the bottom (as long as it meets the aforementioned criteria)
I know it’s simple but I haven’t the slightest idea where to look. I have looked around indeed and haven’t found much. I see a lot of admin assistant positions that meet the criteria but I don’t know if they would hire me, for I am inexperienced in their eyes (even though the postal service is a highly customer oriented job, for some reason employers overlook that fact). I have applied to Kelsey seybold but they either overlook me or never respond. UTMB seems to prefer only candidates with bachelors , for they always reject me. Hospitals aren’t the only places I am willing to work, I just know Kelsey and UTMB have pretty decent tech departments, if I could just get in the door. I am open to suggestions of other areas of employment and any tips on how to convince employers to hire me when everything is done digitally would be awesome! I have tried the face to face approach before covid and I always get the “APPLY ONLINE” response. Is there anyway to show that I am interested via electronic applications? Thanks for any input!
