JFC, Houston. Can we please get it together and resume a sort of Free Press Spring/Summer Fest music fest?
Here I am… sorta deep into a few drinks on my day off and listening to some old playlists I’ve made of local and TX bands that have played FPSF. And I’m thinking to myself… “JFC… why the hell don’t we have this anymore?”
I get that covid sucked out a lot time for everyone. And maybe it’s not in corporate interests to have music festivals. But FPSF was supposed to be a recycling program and with carbon offset credit incentive. It’d be cool to resume that spirit and have like… idk, a way to buy tickets with the amount of recycling you bring in. Or maybe volunteer to clean afterwards and before and then you’d get tickets. Idk, something like that.
And it ought to be a festival that focuses on Houston/Texas bands. Like it used to. With a few national headliners. It was way better when it was focused mainly on local musicians and then had a few major national headliners.
AND ANOTHER THING… If was brought back, could it go back to Eleanor Tinsley? If not, what about Hermann park? Anything but NRG. The fucking point was to have it in a green area.
Also, a side quip, and this is a personal opinion but… ffs, FPSF ought to be in the spring tbh. Like… around Earth Day. It’s not unbearably hot and the nights are pretty during that time. Plus the wild flowers are in bloom and that would be nice.
Sorry for the rant. This is just one doofus’s opinions and I’ve got some more to say about bringing another Houston centered music fest but I’ll leave for another day.
