Another promising bar opened in the neighborhood

There’s certainly no shortage of great bars in the Montrose neighborhood, and Jethro’s hopes to add its stamp. After opening this spring, the bar is steadily becoming a local watering hole thanks to boozy peach cocktails and smash burgers.

The 2,200-square-foot space features a standard walk-up bar and a gigantic window that allows for outdoor air and views of the vibrant neighborhood. California native Andrew Corbett, and partners and native Texans Russell Malixi and Wade McElroy have collaborated on past hospitality projects in California. Following years of running successful Los Angeles establishments like Good Housekeeping, Bar Bohemien, The Arroyo Club, and Horse Thief, Jethro’s is the team’s first venture in Houston.

“It’s a casual neighborhood cocktail bar, similar to some of the ones we operate in Los Angeles,” Malixi says. “It’s just one of those places where you can come by two nights a week if you live in the neighborhood, or for a date night.”

Jethro’s is hoping to add to the neighborhood’s cluster of neighborhood bars.

The menu at Jethro’s is simple, though intriguing. A list of 10 cocktails includes the Sweet Like Peachtree, which is crafted with vodka, peach puree, lemon, ginger beer, and simple syrup. Not Your Dad’s Old Fashioned is a fruity play on the classic drink, and hibiscus-infused rye whiskey is paired with fernet, Luxardo, simple syrup, and angostura. The bar is still building the burgers and bites menu, but the smash burger, plant-based alternative, and fries have served as ample bar food as the group settles into the neighborhood.

Jethro’s is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. until midnight, Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday from noon to 2 a.m., and Sunday from noon until midnight. Jethro’s is located at 95 Tuam Street, and parking is available in a lot shared across the street with Elro.
