It’s time to consider Stingley’s trade value and trading him.
I know people don’t want to talk about this, but we are now having 2 consecutive years of the same significant hamstring injury that landed him on IR. I know it seems early to pull the plug, but significant injuries are a recurring issue for the past 3 years for him, so it’s not some random issue. It is readily apparent his body can’t hold up to the rigors of an NFL season. I wanted Sauce specifically because of the injury issues with a concern of his lack of availability, and now this has come to fruition.
If he was healthy, we’d probably be 4-2 after beating the Falcons. However, he’s not available once again. I’m getting Will Fuller vibes from this guy, and the Texans aren’t going to be able to give him a longterm contract that Stingley will want because he’s never on the field long enough. We can’t pay a guy for 9-12 games a season and be a contender.
What is his trade value currently? A first round pick, or would it be a second and a fourth? I believe if we could get a first round pick, we should trade him in the off-season and draft a player that can be on the field and contribute. I know this might be unpopular, but it’s better to trade him when he’s still got a high value. If we have 2 firsts in this year’s draft, we for sure will be have the chance of being one of the better teams in the conference. Having 2 firsts would allow for us to build up on lines on either side of the ball or draft a CB that can play a whole season without significant injuries.
Before anyone disagrees with me, ask yourself this question:
Will Stingley play in 28 out of the next 34 games in the next 2 season? I ask this because he will have to play a minimum of 14 games each of the next 2 seasons to show that he’s worth getting an extension.
I am of the mindset if we can get a first round pick for him this off-season, we should trade him while he still has a high value. I’m not saying to trade him midseason.
