Is the Metro crowded weekday mornings?

Hi- sorry to make a stand-alone post for a small question but I was curious how crowded the Metro would be weekdays around 7:30am? And do people typically mask? My one year old has a doctor appt about two miles from our hotel downtown and the Metro looks super convenient..but he’s too young to mask so I wouldn’t want to put him at risk by taking him on an extremely crowded train during rush hour.
