Is the floor of this team lower than we anticipate?
Apologies for the lack of optimism in this post given that this is the time of the year where we as a fanbase fresh off of a playoff win with an elite defense and franchise qb are hyped for the oncoming season.
I think this team can 100% at least make a conference championship. I have an optimistic outlook on this team given we have what I believe to be one of the elite coaches in the league and what should be a solid upgrade at OC.
But in recent weeks I've been thinking about how the floor of this team might be a bit lower than I'd initially think. Most of my concerns are offense related.
1.) There is a lot of roster turnover on the offensive side of the ball we lost Dell and Diggs whom we started 6-2 with and finished much weaker without. Obviously we did a lot of good work to replace them this offseason but there's no real way to tell if Kirk will workout and if the 2 rookies will be immediately strong
2.) Then there is the offensive line. These O-lineman are young, the prospect of Patterson/Scruggs becoming consistent solid linemen still exists of course, Fisher should realistically be much better this year and as far as blocking schemes go dropping Slowik is arguably an addition by subtraction. However, what we saw last year was not acceptable from the guys who are going to start here next year and we could be in for a rough year in pass protection running it back with these guys.
Once again, I have very high hopes for this team and regardless of outcome the moves made this offseason by the front office were desperately needed. but I do think there are under emphasized question marks that could make things go wrong this season. I'm curious to see if anyone else has the same level of skepticism.
